Cygnus OB2 is the massive central engine of the Cygnus-X region, and it is the best region to study star formation in massive clusters. I present deep r'i'z' GTC/OSIRIS observations of a field of 41'x41' centered on the region studied in the Chandra Cygnus OB2 Legacy Survey. The OSIRIS mosaic reaches r'=25, corresponding to subsolar masses at the distance and extinction of Cygnus OB2. The diagrams of the region show features related to a rapid increase of the extinction in the cluster direction, due to a dense nebulosity. Using the photometry together with models of the galactic stellar population, we estimate the distance and width of the cloud, concluding that it is the nebulosity associated with Cygnus OB2. Cluster members are being selected by combining optical with IR and X-ray data. I will present the complete set of cluster members down to 1Msolar, and reveal how star formation and disk evolution occurred close to the massive stars of Cygnus OB2.
