ACAM - a new imager/spectrograph for the WHT
Abstract
ACAM is a new and unique addition to the suite of instrumentation available at ORM. It provides high-throughput broad-band and narrow-band imaging, and low-resolution spectroscopy, and is permanently mounted at a folded Cassegrain focus of the WHT.
It's a popular instrument with observers, and is ideally suited to rapid follow-up of unusual events (GRBs, supernovae), complementing the more specialised instruments available on the WHT and on other ORM telescopes. We discuss the design trade-offs, post-commissioning investigations to eliminate scattered light, and ACAM's scientific productivity.
