We show the studentship program developed at the ING over the last years. This program has trained several generations of astronomers from different countries in the use of small ground-based telescopes, at the time when large telescopes, and their queue observing systems, are causing more and more limited access for astronomers to such facilities, and giving rise to generations of astronomers with less and less direct contact and experience with telescopes.
