The role of GTC in GRB science
A. de Ugarte Postigo et al.

Abstract

Over the last year the 10.4m GTC telescope has claimed its role as one of the leading facilities for gamma-ray burst (GRB) research world wide. GTC is the only large telescope within European soil, giving it an outstanding position for fast target of opportunity observations. The dominant service mode operation, makes it specially well suited for these kind of observations.

This talk will be an overview of the results obtained in GRB studies since the beginning of scientific operations. We will describe some of the results published until now and present our expectations for the future of GTC in the field, with both the current and the future instrumentation.

Finally, we will review the improvement of the target of opportunity operations at the telescope since they were first offered, giving our view of how they could be improved even further in the future.
