Following the installation of the first generation of scientific instruments, first-light observations were achieved by the LMT in June 2011. The detection of molecular gas towards star formation regions in galaxies in the local Universe as well as those at high-redshift (z=2-4) represents an important milestone in the LMT project. A brief review of the first-light observations and the current status of the LMT project will be presented.
