On the relation between observed and predicted global seismic quantities in red-giant stars

Abstract

Global seismic quantities are becoming an essential tool of what is commonly known as the ensemble asteroseismology.
They are mainly the large separation, the frequency of the maximum height, the period spacing, mode amplitudes, and mode line-widths.
However, there is quite a leap between the observed and predicted quantities that needs to be reduced through theoretical
efforts.
I will emphasize the cases of period spacings and mode amplitudes and show how CoRoT observations of red-giant oscillations allowed us to progress on the relation between observed and predicted global seismic quantities.
