The chase for false positives and contamination corrections

Abstract

The vast majority of transit signals detected by Corot are due to stellar companions and not to exoplanets. Prior to ground-based follow-up observations, a detailed analysis of Corot data readily makes it possible to classify numerous transit signals as due to stellar companions, and thus to spare time and energy. Such an analysis requires not only a complete characterization of the light curve itself, but also of the environment of the target star, i.e., calculations of the contaminating fluxes of the neighbooring stars. We will present our approach to this problem and discuss a few illustrative examples.
