From density fluctuations to prestellar cores: assembling stellar masses
Abstract
I will present a brief review on the two main modern theories aiming at
describing the basic formation process of star formation leading to the observed IMF.
One theory is based on prestellar mass cores set up by initial turbulent fluctuations
while the second theory is based on competitive accretion within the cloud.
