Outline of the school
The XXXIII Canary Islands Winter School is addressed to students and early postdocs working at the intersection of Astrophysics, Cosmology and Particle Physics. We will focus on the complementarity between theory, astronomical observations and laboratory experiments to make progress in fundamental physics.
Participants of the Winter School will have the opportunity to display their current work by presenting a talk or a poster.
Renowned specialists in the field will lecture on a selection of topics
First Week:
-
Benjamín Grinstein (UCSD): Overview on Particle Physics.
-
David G. Cerdeño (UAM): Overview on Astroparticle in Cosmology.
-
Fabio Finelli (INAF OAS Bologna): Fundamental Physics with CMB.
-
Matteo Viel (SISSA): Fundamental Physics with LSS.
-
Luca Amendola (Univ. Heidelberg): Dark Energy - theoretical and observational status.
-
Kfir Blum (WIS): Fundamental Physics with Galaxies.
Second Week:
-
Valerie Domcke (CERN): Early Universe and Inflation.
-
Tracy Slatyer (MIT): Dark Matter - theoretical and observational status.
-
Olga Mena (IFIC): Neutrinos in Cosmology and astrophysics.
-
Vitor Cardoso (Lisbon and Niels Bohr): Gravitational waves.
-
Francesca Calore (LAPTH): Fundamental Physics with cosmic rays and gamma rays.
-
Diego Blas (IFAE): Closing lecture.
In addition, we plan a distinguished lecture and public talk by Prof. Dr. Malcolm Longair, Master Classes by Prof Raúl Angulo, Prof Arianna Di Cintio and Prof Francisco-Shu Kitaura, and a workshop on Art&Science by Prof. Rebecca Collins.
The Winter School will take place in San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain) from Monday November 21 to Friday December 2 2022. The lectures (in English) will take place in the mornings of working days. Speakers will present their topics in series of 50-mins lectures. Additionally, in the afternoons, there will be master classes, tutorials, and student-seminar sessions. Links to the material used by the lecturers, as well as videos of the lectures, will be made available on the website of the school. Visits to the Teide Observatory in Tenerife will be scheduled as part of the activities. A visit to the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma will be offered optionally as part of the program.
Those interested in attending the school should register following the instructions provided in the registration page. Once registered, please login to the personal area of the website and complete the required information. In addition we request a letter of reference from a thesis advisor or Head of Department which should be emailed to winter@iac.es. These should reach the IAC not later than 11 September 2022. Selected candidates will be informed before 16 September 2022.
