Vicente Andrés

Vicente Andrés obtained his PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Barcelona (1990). During postdoctoral training at the Children's Hospital, Harvard University (1991-1994) and the St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Tufts University (1994-1995), he led studies into the role of homeobox and MEF2 transcription factors in processes of cellular differentiation and proliferation; and it was also during this period that he developed an interest in cardiovascular research. His career as an independent research scientist began in 1995 when he was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts. Since then Dr. Andrés and his group have studied vascular remodeling during atherosclerosis and post-angioplasty restenosis. After obtaining a position as a Tenured Research Scientist in the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Dr. Andrés returned to Spain in 1999 to establish his research group in the Institute of Biomedicine of Valencia, where he worked as a Full Professor. Since 2006, his group has been a member of the Red Temática de Investigación Cooperativa en Enfermedades Cardiovasculares (RECAVA). He joined the CNIC in September 2009.

In 2010 he was awarded the Doctor Leon Dumont Prize by the Belgian Society of Cardiology
