Mapping Diffuse Intersetellar Bands in Three Dimensions
Janez Kos

Abstract

Contemporary large spectroscopic surveys in optical ranges are targeting millions of stars and consequently millions of different lines of sight through the interstellar medium. However, this unprecedented supply of the ISM information is mostly hidden in diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) that are the only ISM species present at all optical ranges and usually the only ones being coincidentally included into the narrow spectral ranges where surveys operate. The poster presents the challenge and methods of measuring DIBs in mostly cold stellar spectra with minimal knowledge of stellar parameters, and shows some results of studying the ISM through DIBs.
