About San Cristóbal de La Laguna

The Winter School will be held in San Cristóbal de La Laguna (commonly known as La Laguna) is a city and municipality in the northern part of the island of Tenerife. The city, with a population of 150,000 inhabitants, is third-most populous city of the archipelago and second-most populous city of the island. La Laguna historical centre – where Hotel Conference is located- was declared World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1999. Starting en 2003 the municipality started an ambitious Urban Plan to renew this area. The city was the ancient capital of the Canary Islands. La Laguna is physically part of the city of Santa Cruz, as both cities and municipalities, form a single large urban centre, which is in the process of consolidating their union with other populations.
It is home to the University of La Laguna whith more than 30,000 students (not included in the population figures for the city). La Laguna is considered to be the cultural capital of the Canary Islands. Also there is in the habit of being calling the "City of the Anticipated ones", for having been the first university city of the archipelago.

Weather and Climate

Weather in November is usually comfortably warm. Please make sure that you have some warm clothing as cool evenings and rain are possible at this time of the year, although the climate is usually mild.

The weather in San Cristobal de La Laguna is expected to be mild with temperatures in the range 17º to 20ºC during the day. In the afternoons and evenings can be more humid and rainy.

Snow may come down in exceptional conditions to about the 1500 m level allowing spectacular photographs of the mountain side.

If you plan to go the trip to Teide and Roque de los Muchachos Observatories, expect temperatures there, which could be even about zero. Mountain top weather is very variable at this time of the year and rain, snow, fog and high winds may all occur. The weather can change quickly, so a brilliant sunny day may turn cloudy
