Evidence of a magnetic sheath around a jet from NGC 6543
Aden B. Meinel and Barbara Meinel

Abstract

We present observational evidence that NGC 6543 produced a jet of cosmic rays that irradiated the Earth recorded as cosmogenic 10Be found ice cores. This identification implies that the jet was accompanied by a collimating magnetic field at ejection from a neutron star/accretion disc of a central AGB binary, the field strength high enough to enable the jet even after adiabatic expansion of the magnetic energy during travel through the interstellar magnetic field and still retain evidence that it originated as a point source at 18h+65°
