Search for the magnetic field of O7.5 III star $\xi$ Persei
Abstract
Cyclical wind variability is an ubiquitous but as yet unexplained feature among OB stars. The O giant $xi$ Persei is one of the brightest representatitives of this class. As its prominent cyclical wind properties vary on a rotational time scale ($\approx$ 2 days) the star has been since a long time a serious magnetic candidate. We present the results of our exhaustive new search with high time resolution with the spectropolarimeter Narval at the T\'elescope Bernard Lyot, France, in 2007. We discuss the results in the light of of all previous attempts, including the non-radial pulsation behavior.
