I review recent ideas on the transport of magnetic fields from AGN cores,
through jets and into lobes, and into the IGM. I also discuss the energetics,
which are key to understanding these processes. The magnetic field strength
and structure in lobes will be discussed, along with related ideas on relativistic particle acceleration and heating of the intergalactic medium. Observational
tests of some of these ideas will be presented and briefly discussed.
