Crown Prince of Spain Invited to Open Conference

In 1985, when the International Observatories in the Canary Islands were officially inaugurated by the Royal families and the Heads of State of the participating European nations, the Spanish Crown Prince and heir to the throne was invested as an Honorary Astrophysicist of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (Astrofísico de Honor). The title is one which has nearly five centuries of tradition in Spain.

Principe Felipe is Prince of Asturias and Girona and has a long tradition of friendly relations with the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias. In recognition of this joint role as Astrofísico de Honor and Prince of the town and province where the conference is to be held, we are proud to announce that the Prince has been invited by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and the Consell Conmarcal de Girona (the Regional Council), to preside the opening of the conference.
