Whole Sun meeting
Tenerife, Spain. October 21-25, 2024

Visit to the Observatorio del Teide (OT)

The visit to the Observatorio del Teide (2390 m above sea level) will take place on Wednesday, October 23rd. The weather may be unpredictable, but, at any rate, it will be far cooler there than in La Laguna. A bus will pick up the participants at the entrance of the IAC, departing right after lunch (14:00). Upon arrival, we will split into three smaller groups, to follow guided tours of several facilities for daytime observations. The walk between facilities is quite short (<10 min) and will be led by members of the LOC. At the end of the tour, the three subgroups will converge into the 'Residencia' (the IAC building with lodgings and restaurant facilities for the astronomers) to enjoy a small snack* before heading back to La Laguna. The end of the trip is foreseen to be around 19:30 at the IAC in La Laguna.

About the observatory

The Observatorio del Teide, located in the Teide National Park in the island of Tenerife, is one of the most important solar observatories in the world. It hosts state-of-the-art telescopes and instruments dedicated to solar and atmospheric research. The site benefits from excellent sky conditions, making it a prime location for both daytime and nighttime astronomical observations. You will have the opportunity to learn about the cutting-edge research conducted here and enjoy spectacular views of Mount Teide and the surrounding volcanic landscape. In particular, we are visiting the following facilities:

*The visit to the Observatorio del Teide (OT) is covered by the "Whole Sun" project. This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement No 810218").
