The Tully-Fisher Relation in Galaxy Clusters using 2-Dimensional Spectroscopic Data

Abstract
The Tully-Fisher Relation is an important tool in understanding when galaxies in clusters formed. Recently B\"ohm et al. (2004) found evidence for a mass-dependent luminosity evolution of the Tully-Fisher relation which can be as large as 2 mag for the lowest-mass galaxies, as compared to high mass galaxies, for redshifts up to z=1. We have obtained new imaging from HST and long-slit spectroscopy from VLT-FORS2 to re-investigate this issue using a much larger sample and much better data. Since we have 3 parallel spectra for each galaxy we can treat them together as 2-dimensional spectroscopy, and determine e.g. the influence of non-axisymmetric kinematics on the Tully-Fisher relation. Here I will present the first results of this programme.
