Abstract details

Star light soon on the GTC!
Jose M. Rodríguez Espinosa

Abstract
The Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) is a 10.4m telescope currently being completed at the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos, in the Symposium's island. The GTC is a collaboration between Spain, Mexico and the University of Florida (USA). As the time of this writing it is foreseen that the GTC will have its technical First Light shortly after the Symposium dates. Barring unexpected difficulties, I should be able to show in my talk the progress made in the preparation for First Light. I will also show the current status of the GTC and of its science instruments, including the Adaptive Optics development. Finally, I will describe the strategy for commissioning the telescope and bringing it up to speed for Science Operation.
