Abstract details

I will review the current status of our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution from abundance studies of individual stars in different environments within the Local Group. I will review recent studies made in several different types of galaxy, including our own, and see what this tells us about the past history of the Local Group. This will include recent spectroscopic surveys at both high and low resolution of large samples of individual stars in dwarf spheroidal galaxies around our Milky Way.
