Abstract details

How good are presently existing libraries of theoretical stellar specctra? Why do we need them? For what analyses of stellar populations in galaxies can they be used, and when should they be avoided? What can be done to improve them? I shall attempt to answer these questions and also sketch the possible future development in population synthesis, based on synthetic spectra.
