Understanding secular evolution through the study of absorption line indices in bars
Perez I., Zurita A., Sanchez-Blazquez P.

Abstract
Bars are a fundamental ingredient in the secular evolution of disk galaxies. To understand how the different components of disk galaxies couple and evolve together, it is necessary to understand the stellar age and metallicity distribution in the different galaxy components. Up to know, almost no stellar line-strength studies have been done in the bar region, and the only information for the stellar populations comes from the morphology and broad-band colours. We will present a line indeces study of the bar region of sample of early type barred galaxies, comparing them to their bulge component and to measurements of bulges in unbarred galaxies of the same morphological type.
