Abstract

We present an study of the X-ray emission of GRS 1915+105 using the PCA and HEXTE instruments on board the RXTE Mission. We show the presence of a low frequency quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) in the X-ray emission during an X-ray/radio plateau epoch, with period 0.8s and ranging in energy from 2 to 100 KeV. The study of the behavior of the QPO at different ranges of energies leads us to define a new parameter called Efficiency of the QPO (ǫ), relating the total power of the QPO with the total X-ray flux at different energy bands. The analysis of the efficiency at different energy bands suggests a common origin for the power law emission and the low frequency QPO’s, and rules out its formation in the thermal emission of the inner part of the accretion disk.
