Meeting venue

The workshop will take place at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) in La Laguna, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, on March 12  and 13, 2020, two full days. For participants who need accommodation in La Laguna we recommend to stay at the hotel Nivaria in La Laguna, which is a 20 minutes walk from the IAC , or a few minutes by tram .

We have blocked 15 rooms for this workshop at special prices (around 68.25€ a day, breakfast and taxes included) for a double room with single person occupancy, booking will be valid between March 11 and March 14. When arranging the reservation with the hotel (bookings e-mail: reservas@lagunanivaria.com ) make it clear that you will be participating in the JWST workshop to receive this offer and mention the following code JWST MEETING: 75.974. The rooms will remain blocked until February 24, after that date the hotel can not warrant the availability of rooms nor the agreed prices.

Getting to Tenerife (flight information)

There are two airports on the island of Tenerife, one on the north side (Tenerife Norte, TFN, also known as "Aeropuerto de Los Rodeos") and the other one on the south of the island (Tenerife Sur, TFS, also known as "Aeropuerto Reina Sofía"). Both airports are at about 2.5 hours flying time from Madrid, and about 3 hours from Barcelona. To search simultaneously for both airports use the code TCI. San Cristóbal de La Laguna lies 5 km from TFN, and 65 km from TFS, with a motorway link covering the full journey in both cases. The easiest access is from the northern airport (TFN) along the TF-5 motorway and it takes about 10 min.

Getting to your Hotel (local transport)

From Tenerife North Airport (TFN)

We recommend you to take a taxi as it will just cost you around 10 €. Alternatively, bus line number 20, 12, 51 others depending on time will take you to near the Bus terminal station in La Laguna. From there, a 15 min. walk to Hotel Nivaria.

From Tenerife South Airport (TFS)

You can either catch a taxi (about 70 €); or Bus number 111 (around 10€) from TFS to Santa Cruz de Tenerife (main bus terminal). Until 22:30, departure frequency is 30 min, starting at 6:30. The bus stop (labelled TITSA ) is just outside of the Arrivals terminal, you can buy the ticket from the bus driver. The journey to Santa Cruz bus station is about 55 minutes. From there, the most convenient option to reach La Laguna is to take the tram (“tranvía”) as it is really convenient and the end of the line is very close to Hotel Nivaria (5 min. walk). As you go out of the Bus terminal station in Santa Cruz (East exit facing to the sea) you will see the tram station. Your destination is “La Trinidad”, the other end the line. Alternatively, a taxi from the Bus terminal station in Santa Cruz to Hotel Nivaria will cost you about 20 €.

NOTE: The local bus company is called TITSA , buses are painted bright green, and the local name for bus is "guagua" or "autobus".
