Invited review abstract

In this talk we will present results of simulations spanning the upper convection zone to the lower corona in which flux emergence is included. We will contrast with models where there is no flux emergence, especially as concerns coronal heating and transition region diagnostics. A number of phenomena that arise in the upper chromosphere, transition region and lower corona as a result of flux emergence will be described and we will comment on the possibilities of observing these phenomena with current and future instrumentation.
