Magnetic field strength and topology of active region filaments

Abstract

The magnetic field strength and topology of active region filaments is not well known. Based on observations of an active region filament taken in July 2005 with the Tenerife Infrared Polarimeter (TIP II), we will present the results for the inferred chromospheric and
photospheric magnetic field vectors of this region. These were obtained by inverting the full Stokes profiles of the chromospheric He I 10830 A triplet and the photospheric Si I 10827 A line using different inversion codes for each spectral line.
The field strength measured in the filament is of the order of 600 - 700 Gauss and the polarization profiles of the Helium 10830 A lines are dominated by the Zeeman effect. Strong transverse fields at photospheric, as well as chromospheric levels, were detected near the neutral line.
