MHD Dynamical Evolution to MHS Equilibria

Abstract

For the last thirty years, most of the studies on the relaxation of stressed magnetic fields in the solar environment have been done by considering only the Lorentz force, neglecting plasma contributions, and therefore, reducing any form of equilibrium to that of a force free state. Here we study the non resistive evolution of finite beta plasmas and their relaxation to magnetohydrostatic states, where magnetic forces can be balanced by plasma pressure gradients. We aim to predict the final equilibrium states and to understand their properties in terms of the initial disturbances.
