Abstract

Recently GONG has started recording high-cadence line-of-sight magnetograms. The observed signature of five-minute oscillations in these magnetograms is beleived to arise due the cross talk between Doppler velocity and Zeeman splitting. We apply ring-diagram analysis and spherical harmonic decomposition methods to compute 3-dimensional power spectra of these imagaes. This will allow us to study the power distribution in acoustic waves propagating in quiet and active regions separately. Our preliminary analysis suggests a non-homogeneous distribution of acoutic power in quiet regions while different patterns are present when there is an active region. In this paper, we present our results on the asymmetry in magnetic oscillations and its behaviour as a function of location, frequency, time and magnetic field strength.
