Travel

Almost two million people, mostly from Western Europe, visit Tenerife each year. This means that it is relatively easy to find economic charter flights coming to the islands from almost every large Western European city (London, Birmingham, Paris, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Milan, Rome, Berlin, etc...). The number of Polish, Hungarian, Russian and Checs is increasing and a few charters can be found even from Moscow. In any case, Iberia and Air Europe have competitive prices from most European cities to Tenerife via Madrid.

From North America (of course including Mexico), Spanish and American companies travel from almost every corner of the continent to Madrid and then to Tenerife at reasonable prices (some $700). Currently, Air Europa even has a direct flight from New York to Tenerife for only $400.

Several companies travel from the major cities in South America to Madrid. Some (Iberia, Viasa) even stop either in Tenerife or Gran Canaria (other of the Canary islands) in their way to the continent. Prices are not cheap but, if you shop around you can pick up competitive offers.

From North Africa and the Levant (apart from Morocco which has a direct connection to both Tenerife and Gran Canaria) the easiest way to reach Tenerife is via Madrid or Barcelona.

Right now it is difficult to know whether travelling from India, South Africa, Oceania or the Far East to Tenerife will be cheaper via Madrid or a Northern European city.

Tenerife has two airports; the North (Los Rodeos, TFN) and the South (Reina Sofía,TFS). Several domestic flights arrive to TFN which is at 3 km of La Laguna and 12 from Santa Cruz and it is the most convenient for the meeting. However, some domestic and most international and charters flights arrive at TFS, 60km from the metropolitan area, which has good public transport connections to Santa Cruz.

Weather.

In late June, weather in La Laguna is "usually" sunny and warm. However, it can be highly variable and casual showers or dust clouds ("calimas") might be expected. On the mountain tops (up to 2400 metres), weather can be freezing even in the Summer (albeit normally not during the day) and along the coast (Santa Cruz), it is usually sunny and hot (up to 30º C).
