Venue

The Final COST NanoSpace Joint Scientific Meeting will be held in the "Sala Grande" at IACTEC , the technological and business collaboration space set up by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) in San Cristóbal de La Laguna (usually just called "La Laguna"). The venue is located at a distance of about 3 km from La Laguna city centre and some 6 km away from the island’s capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife (usually just called "Santa Cruz").

The IACTEC is located at Parque Tecnológico de La Laguna (Parque de las Mantecas) 38320 San Cristóbal de La Laguna ,Tenerife , Spain. A tutorial on how to reach IACTEC can be downloaded to your computer.

IACTEC is located in the new Science Park of La Laguna, close to the IAC and the University of La Laguna (ULL) campuses of the city. It comprises a purpose-built headquarters that offer businesses a space of more than 4000 m2, equipped with infrastructure, including offices, meeting rooms, clean rooms, multipurpose laboratories, storage areas, computer rooms, common areas, and underground parking. The building is integrated in a 30,000 m2 space, shared with another building for business and technological use ("Nanotec" of the ULL), and an urban park with sports facilities, children's play spaces and 13,000 m2 of green space.

 

Getting to Tenerife (flight information)

There are two airports on the island of Tenerife, one on the north side (Tenerife Norte, TFN, also known as "Aeropuerto de Los Rodeos") and the other one on the south of the island (Tenerife Sur, TFS, also known as "Aeropuerto Reina Sofía"). Both airports are at about 2.5 hours flying time from Madrid, and about 3 hours from Barcelona. To search simultaneously for both airports use the code TCI. La Laguna and Santa Cruz lie 5 and 13 km from TFN, respectively, while both cities lie at similar distance (65 km) from TFS. There are motorway links covering the full journey in all cases. The easiest access is from the northern airport (TFN) along the TF-5 motorway and it takes about 10-15 min but the southern airport (TFS) have more direct international connections.

 

Getting to La Laguna / Santa Cruz (local transport)

From Tenerife North Airport (TFN)

You can take a taxi (about 10-12 € and 18-25 € to La Laguna and Santa Cruz, respectively); or Bus Number 020 (2,65 €) from TFN to the main bus terminal or "intercambiador" in both La Laguna (5 min) or Santa Cruz (15 min). Until 21:35, departure frequency is 30 min, starting at 6:05. The bus stop (labelled TITSA , the local bus company) is just outside of the Arrivals terminal, you can buy the ticket from the bus driver (see more detailed information about the local transport in the urban area of Tenerife below). From the main bus terminal station in La Laguna, there is a 15 min. walk to La Laguna city centre where several Hotels are located. From the Santa Cruz main bus terminal station you can walk or take the tram ("tranvía") to the tram stop closest to your Hotel. Alternatively, from La Laguna main bus terminal station you can go also to Santa Cruz by tram (~30 min to Santa Cruz main bus station), Bus number 015 (15 min. with a 10-15 min. frequency between 06:00 and 22:45; 1,45 €) or Bus number 014 (40 min. with a 5-10 min. frequency between 06:20 and 21:10; 1,45 €).

From Tenerife South Airport (TFS)

You can either catch a taxi (about 65-75 €; both to La Laguna and Santa Cruz); or Bus Number 010 (9,35 €) from TFS to Santa Cruz (main bus terminal or "intercambiador"). Until 21:40, departure frequency is 30 min, starting at 6:20. The bus stop (labelled TITSA , the local bus company) is just outside of the Arrivals terminal, and you can buy the ticket from the bus driver (also via the ten+móvil digital mobile app or via the contactless rechargeable card ten+; see more detailed information below). The journey to Santa Cruz main bus station is about 55 minutes. From there, the most convenient option to reach La Laguna is to take the tram (“tranvía”) as it is really convenient and the end of the line is very close to the city centre Hotels (5 min. walk). As you go out of the Bus terminal station in Santa Cruz (East exit facing to the sea) you will see the tram station. Your destination is “La Trinidad”, the other end of the line. Alternatively, a taxi from the Santa Cruz main bus terminal station to La Laguna will cost you about 16-20 €.

Note: The local bus company is called TITSA , buses are painted bright green, and the local name for bus is "guagua" or "autobus". Single bus tickets can be bought from the bus driver (cash or bank card) but also combined tickets (bus+tram), single/multiple or daily/weekly travelcards can be acquired via the ten+móvil digital mobile app or via the contactless rechargeable card ten+ at airport ticket machines, TITSA bus stations, kiosk network, and tram ticket machines. The most easy way to acquire the bus+tram tickets (obtaining a considerable discount on the normal price) and travel in the urban area of Tenerife (La Laguna & Santa Cruz) is via the ten+móvil digital mobile app (see more information about the ten+móvil app, tickets and fares in the corresponding web pages of the tram company and TITSA company ).

By public transport

The tram is the most convenient means of transport to and from the IACTEC venue. It connects La Laguna and Santa Cruz and runs every 5-10 minutes during the day. It takes 5-10 minutes to get to the venue from La Laguna and 20-30 minutes from Santa Cruz.

Buy your tram ticket from the machine before you board and validate it in the tram or use the ten+móvil digital mobile app to validate your previously bought digital ticket in the tram using the visible QR code.

By walking

The preferred means of transportation to reach the venue is by public transport (tram or bus). If you are considering to walk, please note that the La Laguna city centre is some 120 m higher than the IACTEC building. Walking from Santa Cruz to the venue can take very long (the height difference is some 420 m) and is not recommended.
