Gravitational waves in metric theories of gravity
L.G. Jaime & S. Mendoza

Abstract

Following the work by Mendoza & Rosas-Guevara (2006) we explore whether any analytic function f(R) -where R is the scalar curvature- in a modified metric theory of gravity can produce gravitational waves that travel at the speed of light in vacuum. We do this in two steps. The first is by assuming a flat background and then perturb it with a small curved space-time. We then repeat the calculation with a curved background and then perturb it.
