Numerical Relativity meets Gravitational Wave Data Analysis
Lucia Santamaria, Badri Krishnan, Stephen Fairhurst, Kopparapu Ravikumar, Adam Mercer, John T Whelan

Abstract

After the 2005 numerical relativity breakthrough, several groups worldwide are now capable to run binary black hole simulations that provide convergent and accurate data for the inspiral, merger and ringdown phases of the BBH coalescence process. In this contributed talk I plan to discuss the results of an ongoing project for using numerical relativity waveforms within the LSC inspiral pipeline codes, e.g. by injecting them into the detector noise in order to benchmark the performance of standard post-newtonian template banks to recover the signal.
